The AI Age Should Be a Renaissance, Not a Landfill

I want the AI age to become a new Renaissance.

We remember the Renaissance because people found new ways to see the world and to express what they saw. New tools helped ideas travel further. More people could learn, experiment, and create.

AI gives us a similar opportunity. It can make writing easier to begin. It can help someone explore an idea, find a structure, or turn a rough thought into a first attempt.

But the same technology can also create a huge amount of empty content.

AI learns from what humanity has already made. It is very good at taking pieces of the past and arranging them in a new order. The result may be clear and technically correct, yet still feel meaningless. It repeats history without adding a reason for the new work to exist.

That reason cannot come from the machine. It comes from people.

Every person carries thoughts that nobody else has in exactly the same way: an image, a memory, a question, a fear, a character, or a different way of understanding the world. Most of these thoughts never become works. They disappear before they reach the page.

In the past, having a good idea was not enough. A person also needed time, confidence, technique, education, and many failed attempts. A great number of meaningful ideas were probably lost because the people who had them could not cross the distance between thinking and creating.

This is where AI can matter.

Its best use is not to replace the person with the idea. It is to shorten that distance. It can help someone test a possibility, get past the fear of beginning, and stay with a thought long enough to give it form.

Good work will still be difficult. The author must decide what the work means, what belongs in it, and what should be removed. AI can offer possibilities, but it cannot take responsibility for those choices.

If we use AI only to produce more words, the internet will become fuller while culture becomes thinner. We will build a landfill of generated text.

If we use it to give more human ideas a chance, the result could be very different. People who never thought of themselves as writers may finally attempt the story they have carried for years. More private thoughts may become real works. Some of those works may be genuinely new.

That is the belief behind OpenNovel, the product I am building. I do not want to generate endless disposable novels. I want people with an idea to have a better chance of turning it into a good work.

AI has already learned from our history. The important question is whether it can help more of us add something meaningful to it.
